North American 3S program gets underway at Fudan University

Fudan University opened its 2016 International Summer Session and the North American Program of Shanghai Summer School (3S) on July 3. Zhou Yaming, assistant principal of Fudan, delivered a welcome address and officially opened the program.

This year’s program attracted unprecedented numbers of students with more than 200 attending from 41 universities across 17 countries, with 40 students being awarded 3S scholarships.

The teachers from Fudan introduced the guests to the university and its school of economics along with a brief history of the development of Shanghai, as well as answering students’ questions about courses and campus life. They also shared their international exchange experiences and recommended some good places to visit in the city.

A welcoming party was held thereafter, where the students mingled, ate and played fun games. A student from the Netherlands sang the traditional Chinese song Jasmine in Chinese, which was well received by the audience.

The four-week program runs from July 4 to 30, and features 17 academic courses and various cultural activities for students to choose from. Three kinds of Chinese language courses are available for students of different levels, covering a range of topics, such as history and culture, society and politics, business and economy, and global Issues of the 21st Century. After successfully completing their courses, the students will be awarded a program certificate and an official transcript from Fudan University.
