Shanghai's leisure plan for Spring Festival celebrations

According to the municipal government’s meeting summary on Jan 26, Shanghai is planning on 24 celebratory and tourism activities during this year’s Spring Festival (Feb 18-24) and Lantern Festival holidays (Mar 5).

The activities are divided into three categories - festival and folk activities that celebrate the New Year of Goat; flower admiration and leisure activities that invite tourists to go out for a picnic and pick some flowers or fruits; and some featured tours to show the city’s rich culture.

Here are some recommendations as to what to do/where to go during the festival.

Guyi Garden: Spring garden party

Though the Guyi Garden in Jiading cancelled this year’s lantern parade, they will still organize some folk performances to celebrate the festivals and display some traditional arts. Tourists can also enjoy the various winter sweets then.
Date: Till Mar 6.

Shanghai Wild Animal Park: Sheep show

To celebrate the Year of Goat, the park is holding a spectacular show, including a corridor with information billboards and cultural tips on sheep, and displaying sheep of more than 10 species. Even alpacas will be brought in to add to the festive air.
Date: Feb 18 to mid-March.
How to get there: 178 Nanliu Rd, Xuan Qiao Town, Nanhui District, Pudong New Area.

Shanghai Italian Center: Ice Town

The 3000-square-meter ice town will shelter the Italian center with artificial snow and ice and have snow sprays to bring more fun to the carnival.
Date: Jan 8 to Mar 8, 11 am to 8 pm (last entry at 7 pm).
How to get there: 2095 Expo Avenue, Pudong New Area.

Shanghai Happy Valley: Humor day

Clowns, magicians, puppet shows… the Happy Valley will offer a day of fun activities to generate laughters. More than 20 comic masters from several countries will perform in various shows every day.
Date: Feb 18 to Mar 5.
How to get there: 888 Linhu Rd, Songjiang District.
