Introduction
Shanghai American School (SAS) is China’s largest international school, with more than 3,200 students from more than 40 countries. Established in 1912, SAS is an independent, nonprofit, and nonsectarian school that offers an exemplary core American curriculum for expatriate students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school is located on two state-of-the-art campuses – one on the west side of the city (Puxi) and one on the east side (Pudong). SAS’s dedicated teachers are highly qualified faculty, recruited primarily from school systems in the United States and Canada, and from international schools around the world.

SAS’s facilities are first class. Technology is integrated into the curriculum throughout the grade levels, and students participate in the 1:1 laptop program in grades 6–12. High-caliber facilities are in place for all sports, including ball fields, gymnasiums for each school division, and aquatics centers on both campuses. SAS boasts multiple black box theatres and a Performing Arts Center where the school’s orchestras, bands, and theatre troupes perform regularly, as well as professional acts from China and around the world. Guided by a bold new mission and vision, SAS prepares each child for academic and personal success in higher education and in today’s global society. More than 98% of SAS graduates matriculate to universities in the United States and around the world.
