The annual Winter Institute at Shanghai Theater Academy (STA) will bring together worldwide scholars and students in Shanghai for the sixth time from Jan 4 to 13, 2017.

Hosted by STA, and jointly run by US universities Brown, MIT, NYU and Yale, the 2017 Winter Institute is aimed at promoting mutual academic exchanges and contributing to the ongoing transformation of the city.

The institute will play host to a variety of lectures from prestigious speakers, such as Professor Matthew Guttmann from Brown and Professor Caleb Hammond from MIT, with topics ranging from various forms of play writing to the art of media.

Special guests from home and abroad will also share their experience with the students. For example, Professor David Bridel from the University of Southern California will explore the art of movement and clowning; and the world-renowned composer, conductor and Oscar winner Tan Dun will stage Water Heaven to display the music and art of water.

The enrollment for domestic and overseas students, 60 in total, has already begun. Students from the five member universities enjoy a tuition-free discount, and other foreign students can attend the Winter Institute at a price of $2,000.

If you wish to experience a different kind of winter holiday, you can apply before Dec 15 by calling 0086-21-6248-6050, or email to
