Christmas bells rang at the Shanghai International Student Service Center (SISSC), as a party prepared for overseas students in Shanghai took place on Dec 24, 2016 to heat up the chill of winter with festive air.

To the accompaniment of upbeat tunes, the party began with a staff member dressed in a Santa Claus outfit. He shared candies and apples with the students. The latter, called ping’an guo in mandarin, are specialties in China representing Santa's best wishes for peace, health and happiness.

The students also exchanged gifts, and sampled a variety of delicacies.

After eating and drinking their fill, the students tried their hands of some traditional Chinese handcrafts—Chinese knots, Shanghai-style paper cutting, dough modeling, freehand opera masks and festive lanterns.

They also took part in some interesting games, enjoyed a lucky draw, and made wishes for the new year.

Founded in the July of 2016, SISSC provides professional support to overseas students in Shanghai. From colorful cultural activities to considerate living tips, SISSC is developing to become the bond connecting overseas students with the metropolis.
