The College of International Exchange of Shanghai University (SHU) held a closing ceremony for international students majoring in Chinese language studies on Jan 6.

University officials attended the ceremony, extending sincere congratulations to the students.

Wu Xieyao, an experienced Chinese language teacher, spoke highly of the students' hard work throughout the semester. "The semester we spent together was fruitful, both teaching and learning," Wu said.

Sawika Nimmano, a student and Confucius Institute Scholarship winner from Thailand, shared her experiences and feelings about the past semester. Aside from initial feelings of strangeness toward life in Shanghai upon her arrival, she soon became accustomed to the campus life, and was quite in favor of the Chinese language classes.

"My prolonged connection to the Chinese language and my adorable classmates and friends has made me feel at home here," she said.

She also expressed her gratitude to SHU for its dedication to enriching campus life for students, as well as hosting cultural activities and sports meetings.

There are 230 international students who study Chinese at SHU. Seventy-three of them are winners of Chinese government scholarships. Fifty-seven completed their studies this past year, and more than 130 will continue their education at SHU.
