Marine scholarship winners tour Zhejiang

Forty-five international students from the Ocean University of China, and Tongji, Zhejiang and Xiamen universities, all winners of the China Marine Scholarship, visited Zhejiang University from Dec 5 to 9, 2016, to take an academic and cultural tour of the province.

Jointly initiated by the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and the Ministry of Education, the scholarship is aimed at providing financial support to outstanding students from the coastal countries or regions around the South China Sea, the Pacific and the Indian oceans, as well as developing countries in Africa.

Six students from Tongji University in Shanghai, all majoring in oceanography or other related disciplines, were in attendance.

During their five-day tour, the students took part in various classes and academic exchanges, attended field trips to professional oceanographic institutes and labs, and visited many cultural and tourist spots in the capital city of Hangzhou and the renowned island city –– Zhoushan.

The students appeared to enjoy the tour, and many expressed their wishes for more academic and cultural exchanges in the future.

Since the scholarship was launched in 2012, Tongji University has received 22 scholarship students, providing them with a high-quality education to assist them on their journey to becoming professionals.
