More than 200 overseas students and teachers from Shanghai University (SHU) enjoyed a festive party together at Baoshan Campus on Jan 20, to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.

Gong Siyi, vice president of SHU, praised the students for their hard work throughout the year, and introduced some beneficial policies to help overseas students find work in China.

The party kicked off with the screening of a video titled My Family at SHU made by the students to extend their season's greetings and love for their alma mater.

The action kicked into a higher gear with the start of an energetic hip hop dance mix by a group from ISU, followed by a series of singing and dancing performances by overseas students from the US, Madagascar, Ukraine, and Myanmar.

A costume show presented by the student union was the most enchanting performance of the night. Dressed in hanfu, the traditional dress of China's majority Han ethnic group, the students vividly portrayed the elegance of the costume, transporting the audience back in time thousands of years.

Foreign staff members from leading scientific equipment company Labcare Scientific China Limited, the SHU alumni enterprise, also put on several impromptu shows.

The party concluded with the presentation of a red envelope, or hongbao, to each student. Inside each envelope was a bookmark to symbolize academic improvement, a gold coin-shaped chocolate symbolizing sweetness in life, and a fitness card representing good health.
