Overseas students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) were given the chance to get to know Chinese culture better by trying out traditional calligraphy art on March 18.

Jointly organized by the school's international student union and calligraphy association, the event attracted several students, with some arriving much earlier than the scheduled time.

Members from the calligraphy association, all very experienced with calligraphy, painting, and seal-cutting, introduced the students to the basic techniques, showing off their superb artistic skills as well as giving some hands-on directions.

The students were eager to take up the brush and they did their utmost to imitate their instructors and learn quickly. Their achievements were quite impressive, winning much appreciation from their mentors.

The students spoke highly of the calligraphy event.

"The activity greatly inspires me and I want to delve more into this amazing art," one student said. The student said the group is looking forward to similar activities in the future.

This calligraphy event was the first edition of the "Meet in China" series especially targeting overseas students studying at SJTU to help enrich their campus life and offer them diverse channels to experience traditional Chinese culture.
