The Chinese Corner of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) rang with cheers and laughter as more than 100 overseas students enjoyed an afternoon immersing themselves in Chinese culture on March 20.

The event also received active participation by a group of Chinese postgraduates, designers and organizers of the event who received insights into international education.

After dividing into six groups, the participants were treated to a variety of edutainment, not only latest news and buzzwords from across the campus, but also multiple traditional Chinese cultural activities, such as singing folk melodies, drawing sand paintings, practicing kung fu, and tasting Chinese tea.

The diversified and breezy activities greatly inspired the students, presenting them various real-life language settings in which to practice.

"The friendly and encouraging environment here gave me the perfect chance to think, talk, and digest," said a student from Kyrgyzstan.

The designers and organizers also could not wait to share their excitement.

"The activities help to increase our foreign friends' understanding of China and their language fluency, as well offering us good opportunities to act out what we have learned," said one organizer.

As a school tradition, the Chinese Corner at SISU has incorporated several culturally themed activities targeting overseas students. The Chinese planners will continue to carry out different themes, helping enhance the cultural and linguistic knowledge of their overseas partners.
