A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) led by vice president Wu Dan visited the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel from May 16 to 20, as the two universities held their second joint seminar on modern agriculture.

The visit marked another step forward in the strengthening relationships between the two schools, which launched a joint postgraduate program in politics, international relations and Asian studies in 2016. The universities also have plans to organize new exchanges in fields including bioscience, computer science and social sciences.

Zhou Pei, head of SJTU's school of agriculture and biology, opened the seminar by briefing his Israeli counterparts on SJTU’s latest research and development. He stressed that he was keen to build further on the solid cooperative foundations already laid between the two universities and forge an even closer relationship.

Chinese and Israeli scholars then held in-depth exchanges on topics including the molecular mechanism of plant fiber and the application of high-frequency heating in the food industry.

The Chinese delegation also gained a better understanding of Israel's advanced integration of modern agriculture and technology, especially the water-saving irrigation technique applied by Netafim, the world-leading provider of drippers and dripper lines.
