Fudan University in Shanghai established a global think tank center on May 27, with many prestigious figures from 23 countries and regions agreeing to participate in its work.

Jiao Yang and Xu Ningsheng, senior officials at Fudan, announced the establishment of the center at a ceremony in Shanghai.

Five renowned people from academic, political and business circles were named global advisors for the center. They include Abdullah Gul, former president of Turkey, Christopher Pissarides, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in economic sciences, and Gyorgy Matolcsy, governor of the Central Bank of Hungary.

Dagfinn Hoybraten, secretary-general of the Nordic Council of Ministers, said he is looking forward to the center playing a major role in promoting closer international ties. He also shared his ideas on how to carry out effective and fruitful global exchanges.

At the ceremony, Fudan and the Central Bank of Hungary established a long-term cooperative relationship, which will not only assist the school’s research and teaching in economic and financial fields, but also help the two sides to develop and expand improved international channels.

A Fudan-Latin America university consortium was set up on the sidelines, seeing Fudan partner with 12 Latin American universities, including the universities of Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Chile and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The alliance will hold regular conferences, with the National University of Rosario in Colombia hosting the first annual meeting in November.

Leveraging the intellectual advantage of the Fudan Development Institute, the center plans to open dialogue between different countries and provide an ideal platform where Chinese views and experience will be accessible.
