The night views at Donghua University in Shanghai were brightened by overseas students as the 11th Phoenix Cup Talent Competition got underway on the campus on June 6.

Featuring singing and dancing performances, the event gained active participation by 32 groups of contestants from some 20 countries.

They put on a variety of shows, such as the opening dance staged by the school dancing team, a perfect integration of graceful moves and beautiful melody.

Singing a song from his hometown, the Iranian student Ali presented the audience an exotic feeling, as if bringing them to the mysterious country thousands of miles away.

In fluent Chinese, Owen from the US presented the audience a classic Chinese melody The Lilac, telling them to remember their happy times at DHU, and cherish the people around them.

A series of dancing performances, such as a dynamic Uganda dance, stylish modern dance, and a street dance performed by the girl's group Feminisity, gradually heated up the atmosphere.

A school keen to promote an open and colorful campus atmosphere, Donghua University attracted more than 4,700 overseas students from over 140 countries and regions in 2016.

The school has set up various talent groups targeting overseas students, providing them professional guidance on football, basketball, table tennis, photography, street dance, folk handicrafts, tai chi and hulusi (a type of Chinese flute).
