Some 30 overseas students from Shanghai University visited Caohejing Hi-tech Park Innovation Center on June 23 to learn about how to start a business in Shanghai.

The business incubator is home to many start-ups founded by college graduates, former overseas students and young entrepreneurs from Shanghai.

The students were first introduced to a variety of the park's innovative projects, including an intelligent manufacturing platform and a business producing sophisticated medical apparatus and instruments.

Lu Chao and Fei Dongmei, managers at the center, gave the students an all-round introduction to the history, development and achievements of the center, and invited them to start businesses in Shanghai after graduation.

The students showed great interest, actively shared their start-up ideas, and raised many questions, such as what preferential policies Shanghai offers to young entrepreneurs and how the center helps to nurture its start-ups.

The students said that they regarded the trip as very rewarding, giving them a rich introduction to and first-hand experience of Shanghai's start-up culture. They said they were keen to participate in more related activities in the future, and looked forward to continue living and working in Shanghai after graduation.

Shanghai University is eagerly answering the call of the local government to attract and encourage overseas students to stay in Shanghai after graduation to work and start businesses. By offering preferential visas to foreign entrepreneurs, Shanghai will speed up its development into a city of global influence and creativity.
