Shanghai Tongji University and the Aalto University in Helsinki in Finland strengthened their cooperation on June 29, when the two schools agreed to start a design and innovation program this September.

Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila, along with Zhong Zhihua, president of Tongji, and Ilkka Niemelä, rector of Aalto, attended the signing ceremony held at Tongji.

The officials looked back on the two schools’ close connections since 2011, when a dual master’s degree program in international design business management first started, and looked forward to more exchanges in talent training, scientific research and innovative undertakings.

Aalto University has been a close associate of Tongji for many years. Aside from academic cooperation between the two schools, the Finnish campus is also home to Tongji Lounge, a cultural hub playing host to various traditional Chinese activities.
