The four-week Study China Summer Program drew to an end at East China Normal University on Aug 4.

More than 80 international students attended the program, including four Confucius Institute Scholarship winners from Italy, Germany, France and Thailand.

To increase the foreign youngsters' understanding of China, the program treated them to multiple language learning classes, as well as various cultural immersion activities.

Peking Opera, for centuries one of China's most popular art forms, aroused great interest among the students. They learned the history, features, genres, and musical instruments used in the opera style, and even got to try on several traditional costumes and make-up.

The students were taken on several excursions around Shanghai, such as taking a night cruise along the Huangpu River and paying a one-day visit to the water town Zhujiajiao, before heading to the capital, Beijing. There they were taken to iconic historical sights including the Palace Museum, Great Wall, Temple of Heaven and Tian’anmen Square.

The four Confucius Institute Scholarship winners also had the chance to spend a few days living with local families in Shanghai. They expressed their gratitude to the host families for the warm reception, which made them feel at home, and the sweet memories that they would take home with them.

East China Normal University has been endeavoring to create a more open atmosphere on campus for overseas students. This summer, the school has welcomed several groups of international students, while its own international students put in anexcellent performance at the China ASEAN Education Cooperation Week.
