Some 542 students from more than 80 countries will enroll into programs at Shanghai University this semester as registration begins from Sept 4 to 7.

To help students complete their registrations, teachers and volunteers from the university took advantage of former experiences, and devised a strategy by splitting the process, from materials examining and approval to dormitory registration.

The non-stop support helped the new arrivals find their feet and settle in as quickly as possible. As part of their orientation, the school provided students with a map, a medical guide, an insurance book, and a quick but thorough tour around the campus.

The school also invited officials from the local exit-entry administration and the public security bureau, who introduced the students to a variety of foreign affairs management, safety concerns and notices for the new term.

The students expressed their gratitude for the school's thoughtful arrangements, "From airport pickup to school registration, everything running smoothly with assistance from teachers and volunteers. I'm looking forward to my next three years living and studying at this beautiful campus," said one Ukrainian student.

According to school authorities, a series of welcoming activities, such as one-day tour around Shanghai and an orientation day will be held as follow-up to increase the students' attachment to Shanghai and their understanding of Chinese culture.
