A delegation of 19 students and teachers from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia paid a visit to East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai on Sept 13.

Bao Hua, deputy dean of the College of International Education at ECUST, introduced the Arabian delegation to the school's history and development in international education.

Bao told the visitors that she hoped the two schools, with their complementary strengths in engineering, could enhance their exchanges and promote cooperation in a range of fields.

The visiting delegation was then given a tour of the school's key coal gasification and energy chemical engineering laboratory. The facility was launched by the Ministry of Education with the aim of developing energy conversion technologies and has become an innovative hub for energy and chemical talents.

The group also visited Shanghai Research Institute of the Chemicals Industry, a training base for ECUST students, and Medvance, a company with a special focus on the application of 3-D printing technology in the healthcare industry.

The King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals was established in 1963, and its science and engineering programs are regarded as the best in Saudi Arabia.
