Some 1,320 international students matriculated into East China Normal University in Shanghai after completion of registration early this month for the new semester.

The school's thoughtful preparation ahead of the registration included multilingual guidebooks, airport pickups, and a warm reception by volunteers to help the newcomers find their feet and settle in as quickly as possible.

The new arrivals enjoyed streamlined registration processes. Staff members from local banks were even at the scene providing the students with one-stop bank card services.

They also received special gifts such as a hand-drawn map of the school, a T-shirt with the school logo, and a booklet full of useful tips on studying and living in Shanghai from the school.

Besides the existing on-campus dormitories, the school has made available residential areas off-campus including the Jinjiang Inn which is only five minutes' walk from the school to ensure the students enjoy a better living environment.

An orientation party was organized on Sept 15 to introduce the newcomers to the school's facilities, learning environment, summer programs, and some basic information at the International Exchange Center.

East China Normal University is enjoying an increasing popularity among overseas students in recent years. The number of foreigner students hosted in the university has totaled over 2,500. It is not only a top choice for students from Asia and Belt and Road countries, but also has attracted many American and European students.
