Australian students master Chinese dragon boat-racing

A dragon boat training and Chinese cultural experience program for students from Cairns, Australia, concluded at Shanghai Polytechnic University on Sept 25.

A short video recording the students' experiences at Shanghai Polytechnic University opened the graduation ceremony.

Lu Lidong, a teacher representative, spoke highly of the Australian students' curiosity to try new things and their concentration when practicing rowing the dragon boats.

Cheryl Hudson, leader of the university's student dragon boat league, said that the various classes and practical training offered by Shanghai Polytechnic University were very rewarding.

She also shared that the several cultural immersion activities they took part in during the course, such as making pottery, learning calligraphy, and practicing tai chi, offered them some of the most unique and novel experiences they had ever had.

Students were then awarded graduation certificates and souvenirs from Qiao Liqing, chief of the school's International Exchange Center. She said she hoped the students would cherish their China memories after returning home and that they would pursue further studies in China in the future.

Shanghai Polytechnic University has forged strong educational and cultural bonds with Cairns over the last 10 years. Besides from the dragon boat program, the two sides have also carried out various overseas learning and internship programs.
