Donghua University, a Shanghai-based college specializing in textiles and fashion design, opened its first Innovation Center for Textile Science and Technology on Sept 28.

The new center is designed to stimulate scientific innovation in textiles and produce top quality talent for China's textiles industry.

Jiang Changjun, president of Donghua University, said at the opening ceremony that he expected the center to make a big contribution to the school's academic and practical endeavors in the textiles field.

"At a time of the Made in China 2025 strategy and Donghua's inclusion in the 'Double First-class' plan to develop world-leading higher education institutions, this new center will help enhance Donghua's competitiveness, promote cooperation among textiles researchers and those in other disciplines, and create an innovative hub for industry elites," Jiang said.
