Some 50 overseas students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University took an exploring trip to Shanghai Film Musuem on Dec 6.

At Shanghai Film Museum, located on the original site of the Shanghai Film Corp in Xujiahui area, the students were introduced to various exhibits and video clips displaying the life stories of many actors, actresses, directors and other renowned figures.

The museum also took students on a journey through the history of Chinese films, presenting them with clusters of old shooting machines, props, costumes, memorabilia, equipment, as well as posters from some of the country's greatest movies.

They were impressed with how Shanghai – widely recognized as the birthplace of Chinese films – fueled the country's film industry with Chinese features and Western techniques, became the largest film market in China around the latter half of the 20th century, and cooperated with major film companies such as Disney and DreamWorks.

The students also showed great interest in China's animation industry. They enjoyed heated discussions on famous characters such as "wukong", or Monkey King, and shared how the animated industry is developing in their own home countries.

The cultural exploring trip offered students an opportunity to learn about China from different angles; they regarded the trip to be very fruitful as they not only experienced Shanghai's unique charm but also got to learn about Chinese people's devotion to cultural prosperity.
