A delegation of some 30 media personnel, scholars and youth leaders from the Lancang-Mekong region visited the prestigious Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on Jan 30.

The visit was answering Premier Li Keqiang's proposal to forge stronger ties among Lancang-Mekong nations of China, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. They aimed to yield tangible results, and bring the countries closer to a community of shared future.

The delegation shared ideas on exploring new cooperative opportunities and offering long-term intellectual support to the Lancang-Mekong region, and delved more into SJTU's development in international exchanges and academic breakthroughs.

They also had heated discussions on topics such as student exchanges, scholarships, robot applications, and global climate change, before visiting SJTU's laboratories on robotic research and biomedical studies.

Philomlack Vilay, a Cambodian representative, said he appreciated SJTU's warm reception and was willing to see Lancang-Mekong nations making concerted efforts.

SJTU has attached great importance to set up closer ties with Mekong countries for a long time. The school will adhere to China’s foreign policy of building good neighborly relationships and partnerships with neighboring countries and push forward its educational "opening-up" to a new level.
