A tea party recently arranged by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as a prelude to the school's upcoming homestay season, narrowed the gap between the anticipated international students and host families.

An important chapter written by SJTU to attract international students, the homestay program has, in the past four years, offered several foreign youngsters at least one academic term of lodging at local households.

The Jiangchuan Road community office near SJTU has always provided solid support for the program. Thanks to its vigorous promotion, more families have expressed eagerness to join the program and many of them attended the tea party.

The party included a game in which participants passed around a flower and tried not to have it in hand when the accompanying drumming stopped.

In a friendly atmosphere, the students and host families enjoyed face-to-face talks, exchanging ideas on collaborative consumption and sharing resources. They all said the party was very enjoyable and mind-broadening.

"I hope to attend as many such activities as possible," said a delighted local resident.
