Culinary program on the table for intl students

The 2018 Shanghai Summer School in Chinese culinary culture opened at Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU) June 28.

A total of 21 students from countries including the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand and Kenya will take part in the four-week program.

Meng Zhaoshang, dean of the school of international exchanges at SSPU, explained that this year's program features a richer curriculum with a better mix of academic knowledge and hands-on experiences.

The program is supported by the Shanghai Restaurants Association, Zhonghua Vocational School and Shanghai InterContinental Hotels Group.

Sara Khedimallah, a French student representative, dressed herself up in a qipao, the traditional Chinese dress, and explained her expectations for the program. She said she will grasp the opportunity and strive hard to cook more traditional Chinese dishes.

Shanghai Summer School (3S), launched by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in 2008, has become a branded project for international cultural and educational exchanges.

The Chinese culinary program joined the 3S series in 2015 and welcomed its first group of students in 2016. The program has made breakthrough in the composition of students, teaching arrangements and characteristic courses.
