Tongji University welcomes new overseas students

More than 1,000 international students, teachers, school officials, and experts participated in the opening ceremony at Tongji University in Shanghai on Sept 13.

Yu Yu, director of the International Students Office, briefed about the school's history and development and encouraged the students to uphold Chinese laws and regulations while actively blending in the local culture.

Thomas Howell, an Australian student working on improving his Chinese language fluency at Tongji, encouraged his new schoolmates to embrace the cultural differences and colorful campus life. Sodnomtseren Minjin, who will start his doctoral studies on architecture and urban planning, shared his former learning experiences at the school.

Officers from the local public security bureau explained in detail the policies concerning student visas and other related regulations, while staff members from the insurance company gave an introduction to comprehensive medical insurances.

Tongji University will hold other orientations to help international students adapt to local culture and life.
