Festive air filled East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai on Nov 23, as the school’s third international cultural festival commenced.

Filled with smiles and laughter, more than 200 students from 37 countries and regions attended the festival, including Germany, Italy, France, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Laos, South Africa, Uganda and Kazakhstan.

Various booths featuring distinctive cultures and specialties were set across the campus, such as Arabian students putting on a mutton Mandi rice treat, Laotian students serving tasty chicken dishes, and German students presenting a beer party.

Miniatures of Egyptian pyramids, body paintings with Papua New Guinean elements, and Pakistani folk costumes were also displayed at the event.

International students put on variety shows pushing the festive atmosphere to a new high, including the Mongolian-style dance Phoenix, the Laotian song of Date with Me, and the traditional Chinese dance of Back to Han and Tang Dynasties.

A student representative from Guinea expressed his gratitude to the festival. "It's a great opportunity to share cultures with each other, make new friends, and enhance our understanding of China," the student said.

A school endeavoring to develop international education, the East China University of Science and Technology put Chinese and foreign cultural integration at its core and has yielded productive cooperation with overseas institutions, such as the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
