My name is Rauan, I’m from Kazakhstan. I have studied in China for 7 years, all this time in Shanghai.

I graduated a bachelor’s degree in East China University of Science and Technology, at this very moment continuing my master’s degree there.

For these 7 years I have learned a lot about China, Chinese culture and mentality, hospitality and traditions. I’m so lucky to have an opportunity adjoin with such an interesting and diversified culture as Chinese culture.  For me, before come to study in China, I had impression on China is a magical and forbidden country. And maybe not only me think about China on that way. But when you visit or stay in China for so many years you will totally change your impression on China and will think about China in different way. Maybe that is the reason why China attracts so many foreign students, companies and etc.

First of all, Chinese language is a very comprehensive language. The Chinese characters are completely different world. Pronunciation and calligraphy of Chinese characters you can study for whole your life. That’s on my first year I dedicated one year to learn Chinese language. At the beginning it was very hard to learn them by heart, but step by step I obsessed with it and that motivated me to study and learn Chinese language very fast. In that first year my obsession led me to obtain fifth degree on HSK test which helped me to apply and enrolled in one of the best universities in Shanghai.

Besides of studying very hard Chinese language, I had a great time enjoying practicing my new Chinese words with Chinese ayis and shushus, because regular people whom you can meet on the street, in the shop or etc will be so happy when you speak with them on their mother tongue. I would like to mention that Chinese people so friendly and kind-hearted.

As encouragement for very active students, Shanghai International Studies University organized a visit to the ERA Shanghai Acrobatic Show in Shanghai Circus World. That was amazing. ERA Acrobatic Show is the combination of traditional Chinese acrobatic arts and modern technology.

Four years of studying a bachelor’s degree have gone so fast. The most interesting and invaluable experience was to study with Chinese students. Of course there are many of Chinese study abroad all other the world, but to study in the class there are a lot of Chinese students are way more interesting. What I leaned from that experience that Chinese people are hard workers, and they are very good on that they are doing, studying, working.

Meanwhile doing my bachelor’s degree I had participated in many kinds of competitions and entertainment programs, which are designed to unite foreign students in Shanghai. Participation for these activities gained me a huge amount of friends from all other the world. In my class were 12 international students, from Chad, Mongolia, Yemen, Bangladesh. Each of them has an unique personality. Through these four years and all exams and lectures, I found the best friends.

These two and half years I’m enrolled to Master’s degree. I met amount of amazing teachers in our Business school. I loved my teachers and my classmates. I gained some practical knowledge about Chinese economy, Chinese investment and International Trade.

My the biggest impression of during my master’s degree study is how I participated the biggest comprehensive competition ”中国留动” last year. There were different kind of activities, one of them was kungfu competition in which I was participating with my classmate and friend Surzhana. I practiced meihuajuan style of kungfu, but what we were going to show on competition was the traditional kungfu. We practiced this kungfu for a month with professional kungfu trainer. On the day of our performance we got the high result from jury of the competition. What kungfu brought for me is the deepest insight to Chinese kungfu, which is so appreciated by all other the world. Everybody knows that Chinese kungfu is very interesting. Kungfu taught me to concentrate and patience, which is so important and it helps to study, to work.

At this very moment I’m working on my thesis. All other again I would like to thank my Chinese classmates, because without help and support of our Chinese classmates we would not get to this point.

I’m so glad to be able to study in China. China is a really very beautiful, unique, multicultural country.
