The School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the key colleges and universities in China that offers education to international students.

Aside from enrolling state-funded students, the school also admits self-funded foreign undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students, and visiting scholars.

The school is located on Chongqing South Road, the downtown area of Shanghai, and enjoys convenient transportation.

It has a history of over 60 years ago and has developed into a modern medical school with strong educational strength, comprehensive disciplines, and advanced teaching attachments.

Currently there are 14 affiliated hospitals and 23 secondary colleges (departments) at the school, including basic medicine and clinical medicine.

The school also offers an eight-year medical education program, a seven-year medical education program, and six undergraduate majors. Currently there are 56 doctoral programs, 48 postgraduate programs, and four postdoctoral research stations at the school, with 322 doctoral and 570 master tutors.

The school has formed a relatively comprehensive higher education system, covering general undergraduate education, postgraduate education, adult education, and foreign student education.

The school has been accepting foreign students since 1967. To date, more than 500 international students from 69 countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe and Oceania have studied and graduated from the school.

The school has worked with 63 universities and research institutes in 19 countries and regions across the globe, and carried out extensive cooperation and exchanges, accelerated personnel training, and promoted mutual development.

The school's International Student Exchange Office is responsible for the admissions and management of international students.

Requirements

Entry requirements for degree students:

1. Undergraduate programs:
a. High school diploma, good health, under the age of 25;
b. Applicants should submit their applications, qualified academic certificates, HSK certificate (Elementary C Level or above).

2. Postgraduate programs:
a. Applicants for master degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 40;
b. Recommendation letters from two associate professors and above with qualified academic certificates.

3. PhD programs:
a. Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree and be under the age of 45;
b. Recommendation letters from two associate professors and above with qualifications for academic certificates.

Entry requirements for non-degree students:

1. Visiting scholars:
a. Have formal medical school graduation certificates;
b. Good health, under the age of 45;
c. Apply for their original study or related majors.

Application Methods:

1. Application procedures:
To get the Application Form and Physical Examination Record for Foreigners, Applicants can contact with the International Students Exchange Office at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine by phone or by email, or directly download the forms online.

After filling in the forms, applicants should submit the forms and the copies of their passports, high school certificates, and high school transcripts to our school within the specified date.

2. Once approved, applicants should submit:
a. Health certificate: International traveler's health check record, blood test report;
b. Economic assurance (or financial proof, bank deposit certificate);
c. HSK certificate;
d. Application fee: 410 yuan.

Undergraduate Programs

1. Clinical Medicine Science (Five-year Undergraduate Program)

Clinical medicine science is a characteristic program of the school. Approximately 60 percent of the total students are enrolled in this program.

The program aims to develop students with scientific and research skills in clinical preventive service, medical treatment, and medical teaching.

After finishing basic medicinal studies, the students will intern at various clinical medical schools and teaching hospitals.

Among the 40 teaching weeks, students will attend basic medical courses, clinical internships, and work on their theses.

2. Oral and Dental Sciences (Five-year Undergraduate Program)

The program is one of the characteristics of the school. It is developed on the basis of the Department of Dentistry of Aurora University.

After graduating from the school, students can engage in clinical work, disease prevention, teaching, and research work.

Among the 40 teaching weeks, students will attend basic medical courses, clinical internships, and work on their theses.
